The LHBA-1 VHF/UHF Beam Antenna is a yagi beam that gives improved weak-signal reception.  It ws designed for the LH series receivers but it can be used with the LL receivers with a supporting mast and cable..  The antenna operates on both 121.5 and 243 MHz, so frequency comparison can be made without changing antennas.

Three elements on 121.5 and four on 243 MHz give a gain 3 to 4 dB greater than the standard antenna when the DF is in the RECeive (signal strength) mode. The beam will not give left-right homing, but two LHBA antennas can be used to improve sensitivity of the LIF-10 Interferometer.  (Note: Do not combine one beam and one normal crossbar on the two interferometer masts).  This beam fits on either the standard long mast (LHM-1) (shown above) which folds quickly to 26" long for storage or the 13 in. accessory short mast (LHM-2).  We recommended the long mast for best performance but new long masts are no longer available.   Some groups have adopted telescoping painter’s poles for this purpose.

This beam antenna will also work on the LL Series Little L-PerRegister.jpg (2200 bytes)   Portable Direction Finder, but will require a customer-supplied mast and cable to connect it to the receiver.   Earlier beams will require installation of a 470 ohm 1/4W resistor across the BNC jack if it is desired to have the LL-16 receiver automatically switch to this antenna when it is plugged in.   The beam can also be manually selected without this modification.
